For over 27 years Teen Mother Choices have empowered teen mothers to become independent, functioning members of society. In 1989, after conducting a 10-month Feasibility Study, Christa March began serving teen moms and their children through her home church in Arlington Heights, Illinois. The program was called Teen Mother Choices. Teen Mother Choices served young moms between the ages of 13-23 years and used the volunteer and financial support of Christa’s home church and surrounding churches to serve teen moms.
In 1996, and then again in 2006 two additional Teen Mother Choices Programs began serving teen moms in other communities in northern Illinois. In 2007, using the successful Teen Mother Choices Program, which had by now served over 600 teen mothers, a new not for profit training organization was created, Teen Mother Choices International (TMCI).
Christa March – CEO & Founder
Christa is the founder of Teen Mother Choices and Teen Mother Choices International. Her passion for teen mothers started at the young age of 26 as she saw a gap to lend support to teen mothers once they had made their life-giving choice. Her burning desire to serve young mothers still continues today, 27 years later.
She has been a featured workshop speaker at Focus on the Family’s CPC Executive Directors’ Conference, between 1996 and 2002 and has been a regular guest on various radio programs. Christa has written numerous articles (Understanding Teenage Mothers and The Five Roles of a Teenage Mother™) and was a contributing writer to Moody’s Midday Connection’s daily devotionals Daily Seeds published in 2009 and Tending the Soul published in 2011. A daily devotional specifically for teen mothers, which Christa put together, called Light to Lead the Way: A daily devotional for teen mothers was published in 2011.
In 1983, Christa married Jim March and today, they reside in Gurnee, Illinois with their two children.Kristin McElmurry – Training Director
After graduating from Bethel College in 1993 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Social Work, Kristin became the first Director of Student Services for Teen Mother Choices in Arlington Heights, Illinois. In May, 2012, Kristin began her role as Training Director for TMCI. She is working alongside new and existing licensees as they go through training in the TMCI-model and into their first few years of ministry.
Kristin has been married to her husband, Dan, since December, 1995 and they have two children. They live in Minneapolis, MN and are members of New Hope Church, New Hope, MN.
Angela Ball – Marketing & Communications Director
For five years Angela helped start a Teen Mother Choices Program and later became a TMCI Licensee and Program Director at Christ Fellowship Church in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. During that period, she was able to experience and see first hand the impact Teen Mother Choices program made not only for the teen mothers and children, but also the mentors and volunteers that came along side of them. She believe TMCI’s model is the God given model to empower courageous young moms whom made the “choice” to give life to their precious babies. As His people, she feels we must come together and embrace the teen mothers so they too can feel the love of Christ and be a part of a great family.
Angela has been married to her husband Ray since March 1995 and they have a son and two little Westies.
Genessa Schultz – Program Director
Teen Mother Choices Lawndale Christian Community Church
Genessa grew up in rural Wisconsin. She currently lives in inner-city Chicago with her 8 year old son, Malachi. She recently completed her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership, through which she researched components of successful teen pregnancy programs, specifically the Teen Mother Choices (TMC) model. She began her career in 2003 as a special education teacher in the Chicago Public Schools. After several years of trying new schools and different grade levels, she began to find her strength was working with teenagers. Her love of working with teenagers and her understanding of the difficulties of being a single parent provided the ideal skills needed to serve teen moms in North Lawndale. TMC Lawndale began in January of 2016. We currently serve 5 teen moms and their children with over 30 volunteers from the North Lawndale area.
